Why SRT2GO is free
Streaming your own camera to your own server shouldn't require a subscription. SRT2GO is free because the thing it does — send your video where you want it — is a basic capability, not a premium feature to be rented back to you.
The bigger idea: the De-enshittification Group
SRT2GO is the first project from the De-enshittification Group (DEG) — a small effort with a simple goal: build tools that are free, or as close to free as running costs allow, to replace the unnecessary subscriptions and locked-down services that have crept in around things that should simply be available.
So much of what used to be a one-time tool is now a monthly fee, a forced account, an upsell, and a wall of ads. "Enshittification" is the slow decay of a service that was once good — squeezed for more money, more data, and more lock-in until it barely works for the people who rely on it. DEG exists to push the other way.
What we stand for
- Free, or at cost. We never charge for profit — only, where genuinely unavoidable, enough to cover real running costs.
- Open source. You can read exactly what the software does. No hidden behaviour, no surprises.
- No ads, no tracking, no lock-in. We run no servers that collect your data or your stream. Both are yours.
- Yours to keep. Point the app at any endpoint you control. Nothing ties you to us.
A global social program
The aim is bigger than one app: a growing set of free, honest tools that quietly replace the subscriptions people shouldn't have needed in the first place — available to anyone, anywhere. SRT2GO is just the start.
